PokeBonk went from a small fan project to one of the most talked-about browser games in about a week. Here is the timeline.

October 14: first release

The developer, Charcher (@ImCharcher on X), released the first public build of PokeBonk: a 3D survivor game inspired by Megabonk, playable for free in the browser. He announced it with a trailer and asked players for feedback during a one-week beta focused on balancing.

October 15: beta codes, then open to everyone

Beta access codes were handed out on the official Discord on October 15 (18:30 Spanish time), and later that day the developer posted that PokeBonk was open to everyone. The game launched in Spanish, English, Portuguese, French and German. After the first day he said his next focus was co-op.

October 17 to 19: public test and going viral

A wider public test ran from October 17 to 19. Coverage from gaming news sites such as Dexerto on October 18 sent a wave of new players to the game, and server capacity became the main focus of the early patches.

Patches almost every day

Since launch the game has received patches nearly every day, with version numbers climbing quickly through the 0.7 and 0.8 builds. Early patches focused on:

  • Server capacity and login stability as the player count spiked.
  • Leaderboards and faster ranking lists.
  • Balance for starters, moves and items.

The game reached Season 2 on October 21. Read the Season 2 notes.
